BA Animation Year 3 Progress blog :)
For the environment design, Lucy sketched out some room layout and furniture, that I then coloured using a colour scheme that would fit in with the character’s colours. This allowed us to see how the final animation might look like.
To explore the different primate species, I chose two that interested me – black squirrel monkeys and slow loris. I used references to sketch them and try to stylise them. I also coloured some of my drawings on top of backgrounds by Samatha Adams, to see how they would look like. I focused on primates who are vulnerable primarily by habitat loss as this is what we are focusing on as a team.
For Principles of Animation Arts, I partnered up with Marcelina Dopierala and Caye Motilla Galiana to do the Horniman Project. We started off with a Mindmap and had some pretty solid ideas, so we sketches a few different primate species, as we wanted to see how we can combine our styles.
After communicating with my team, we decided to try and mesh all our character designs into one in order to incorporate all of our styles in one. These sketches are my attempt. I decided to use a similar colour scheme to my original design and try and work with thin lines as it looks more professional.
In the Professional Practice Unit I decided on Creative Conscience Mental Health brief, as I am very passionate about this topic. I partnered up with Sophia Sofianou, Victoria Palaszynska and Lucy Wei to create a 2D animation about the daily effects of our mental health. I created an inspiration moodboard, where I focused on colour and shapes, as well as looking at how to represent mental health visually. I researched some short films, such as ‘Pinched’ by David Vandervoort as well as Alexandra Levasseur’s ‘Playing with Fire’ and Victoria Vincent’s ‘Floatland‘. I want to use vibrant pinks, blues and purples for this animation and specifically in the characgter design. We all split to create a concept for the main character of our story and in mine I focused on big expressive eyes, as well as angular shapes.
